Heat Exchanger


A heat exchanger is a crucial component that facilitates heat transfer between two fluids. It consists of a pack of corrugated metal plates with portholes for the passage of the fluids. The plate pack is assembled between a fixed frame plate and a movable pressure plate, compressed by tightening bolts. The plates are fitted with a gasket to seal the channels and direct the fluids into alternate channels.


The number of plates is determined by factors such as flow rate, physical properties of the fluids, pressure drop, and temperature program. The plate corrugations promote fluid turbulence and support the plates against differential pressure. The frame plate and pressure plate are suspended from an upper carrying bar and located by a lower guiding bar, fixed to a support column. Connections are located in the frame plate, depending on whether both fluids make a single pass or multiple passes within the unit.


Efficient Heat Transfer


Gasketed plate-and-frame heat exchangers (GPHEs) provide highly efficient heat transfer in compact equipment with a small footprint. These heat exchangers are much smaller and more efficient compared to traditional shell-and-tube heat exchangers.


Plate heat exchangers are specifically designed to optimize heat transfer. The corrugated plates offer a large surface area, allowing for effective heat transfer between gases or liquids. Additionally, these units have a flexible design and are easy to service and maintain.
