These plates are assembled between a fixed frame plate and a movable pressure plate, which are compressed by tightening bolts.



The plates are fitted with a gasket that seals the channels and directs the fluids into alternate channels, promoting fluid turbulence and supporting the plates against differential pressure. The number of plates is determined by factors such as flow rate, physical properties of the fluids, pressure drop, and temperature program.



Gasketed plate-and-frame heat exchangers (GPHEs) are known for their efficient heat transfer and compact design, offering a smaller footprint compared to shell-and-tube heat exchangers. The corrugated plates in plate heat exchangers provide a large surface area for optimal heat transfer between gases or liquids.



These plate heat exchangers also offer several benefits. They provide precision heat transfer with a closer approach temperature and true counter current flow, resulting in 80-90% less hold-up volume. The overall cost is significantly low, with reduced capital investment, installation costs, and limited maintenance and operating costs.

Additionally, the plate heat exchangers can be easily expanded in capacity by simply adding or removing plates on the existing frame. There are different types of gasketed plate heat exchangers available, including industrial, industrial semi-welded, WideGap for fibrous liquids, and tailor-made evaporators and condensers.
