Heat Exchanger


A heat exchanger is a versatile piece of equipment consisting of a pack of corrugated metal plates with portholes. These plates allow for the passage of two fluids between which heat transfer will take place. The plate pack is assembled between a fixed frame plate and a movable pressure plate, compressed by tightening bolts. The plates are fitted with a gasket, which seals the channels and directs the fluids into alternate channels.


The number of plates is determined by factors such as flow rate, physical properties of the fluids, pressure drop, and temperature program. The plate corrugations promote fluid turbulence and provide support against differential pressure. The frame plate and pressure plate are suspended from an upper carrying bar and located by a lower guiding bar, both fixed to a support column. Connections are located in the frame plate for multi-pass flow within the unit.



Efficient Heat Transfer


Gasketed plate-and-frame heat exchangers (GPHEs) offer highly efficient heat transfer in a compact and space-saving design. Compared to shell-and-tube heat exchangers, plate heat exchangers provide a much smaller footprint and superior performance. The corrugated plates significantly increase the surface area available for heat transfer, optimizing the exchange between gases or liquids.
