Plate Heat Exchanger

The Plate Heat Exchanger is a compact and efficient equipment designed to provide efficient heat transfer between two fluids. It consists of a pack of corrugated metal plates with portholes for the passage of the fluids. The plate pack is assembled between a fix frame plate and a movable pressure plate, which are compressed by tightening bolts. The plates are fitted with a gasket that seals the channels and directs the fluids into alternate channels.

The number of plates is determined based on factors such as flow rate, physical properties of the fluids, pressure drop, and temperature program. The plate corrugations promote fluid turbulence and provide support against differential pressure.

Gasketed plate-and-frame heat exchangers (GPHEs) are known for their high efficiency in heat transfer. They have a smaller footprint compared to shell-and-tube heat exchangers and offer a flexible design that allows for easy servicing and maintenance.
