The heat exchanger consists of a pack of corrugated metal plates with portholes for the passage of the two fluids between which heat transfer will take place. It is designed to optimize heat transfer, as the corrugated plates provide the greatest surface area for efficient heat exchange between gases or liquids. The plate pack is assembled between a fixed frame plate and a movable pressure plate, which are compressed by tightening bolts. The plates are fitted with a gasket that seals the channels and directs the fluids into alternate channels.
With its compact design and small footprint, the gasketed plate-and-frame heat exchanger (GPHE) offers efficient heat transfer, making it much smaller and more efficient than shell-and-tube heat exchangers. The plate corrugations promote fluid turbulence and provide support against differential pressure. The frame plate and pressure plate are suspended from an upper carrying bar and located by a lower guiding bar, both fixed to a support column. Connections are located in the frame plate, making it suitable for single or multiple pass applications.
